Silk Press Season
The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting long. The leaves are changing colors, and the temperature is dropping. Summer is gone (but honestly did she really ever come this year.) Which means it's time to see how much our hair has grown this past year. Kurlfriends it is officially SILK PRESS SEASON! We made it through wig winter, had our curls poppin through the spring, and worn braids, twist, locs (faux) through the summer. Now we can swing our hair this fall.
To achieve a silk press there are a few things that you could do. The first is to go to a salon and have a professional do it. This will save you time and give you the best professional look. If you trying to save or don't trust people in your hair (trust me I have hair stylist PTSD too) you can do it at home.
1. Wash your hair with clarifying shampoo. You want a shampoo that going to remove all the products from your hair.
2. Deep condition with a light condition.
3. Detangle your hair and put into sections.
4. You can either dry your hair with a blow dryer or let your hair air dry and then blow dry it straight. (This way lessen your chance of getting heat damage)
5. USE HEAT PROTECTOR! Whether you are blow drying or using a flat iron use heat protector. It's not worth having damaged hair over a silk pressed.
6. Once you hair is 100% dry you can straight it. Go by small selection with you flat iron. Chase your iron with a comb to get it straight.
7. Use a hot comb around the perimeter of your hair to straighten your edges.
Once your hair is straight refrain from water and moisture so hair won't revert back. Wrap you hair every night and before shower or bath. If you need to apply heat to your hair use heat protector to eliminate heat damage.
